Buchecha’s Secret Weapon For Tournament Training

99% of BJJ Black Belts and Coaches have never heard of this method

On June 3rd, 2018 Marcus Almeida Buchecha made his return to the IBJJF competition scene and won his 5th world title, smashing the previous record of BJJ Legend, Roger Gracie. Some say that this was the best Buchecha they had ever seen. It’s hard to believe that prior to this, he had actually contemplated retirement.

A few years ago, Buchecha injured his knee in what many had speculated was a career ending injury. They said he would never compete again. Marcus had already resumed training BJJ. But this time, he reached out to a little known strength an conditioning coach named Dr. Samuel Choi.

Dr. Choi and his team jumped at the opportunity. They wanted to build his body to a new level nobody had ever seen before. They wanted the leanest and meanest Buchecha the world had ever seen.

They spent 9 weeks getting ready for the IBJJF Worlds. Dr. Choi and his team were with Marcus for every training session at their gym in Cerritos, CA.

But they weren’t just there to consult. Choi personally scripted each one of his workouts with his special “Wave-Loading” formula. Marcus never did an exercise or touched a weight if it didn’t fit into the formula. The goal was for Marcus’ workouts to be as fresh as possible and not leave him beaten up.

The funny thing is that even though I am a PhD,  with the Wave Loading formula, ANYBODY can do this.

Dr. Samuel Choi

Every single day Marcus would wake up and, based on feedback, they would adjust the training load and volume for that day. At the end of every workout, Dr. Choi would catalog the day’s results and plug them into the formula.

While getting Bucehcha ready for his return was a once in a lifetime experience, the truth is that Dr. Choi has been working quietly behind the scenes with some of the biggest names in BJJ for over 10 years. Here are some of the other BJJ champions he’s trained:

Lucas Leite
Joao Assis
Jackson Souza
Pati Fontes
Arnaldo Madania
Angelo Sabadin
Gabriel Almeida
Catherine Fuhro Perret
Joseph Moku Kahawai

A Different Beast

Being a jiu jitsu fighter, is a special experience. You need to be strong, fast, have endurance and also make weight. Almost no other kind of athlete has to do this.

Can you imagine a marathon runner being expected to lift a 200lb man over his shoulders after running? Or a football player being asked to run long distance after a game?

Even The World’s Best BJJ Athletes Are Brought To Their Knees By One Thing: No Gas In The Tank!

Samuel Choi

For BJJ fighters, all of this matters. It’s not about vanity or looking good. It’s about being prepared for every scenario. These guys have so much riding on the line when they compete. They need every competitive advantage possible against their opponents and being in CRAZY good shape is one them. If you are in the best shape, you can impose your will.

There so many different rulesets nowadays … IBJJF, Sub Only, EBI, Fight To Win, ADCC,  … it’s impossible to remember all of them. While you can’t control the rules, you can control YOUR conditioning. There should be no reason why you run out of GAS or can’t impose your will. This the reason the top BJJ fighters are some of the most shredded athletes in the world !

When matches can be decided by a single advantage, every dominant position you secure matters.

Most BJJ fighters and coaches just seem to get it wrong when it comes to getting in shape. They either work too hard, work too little, do nothing at all…or even worse…end up getting hurt! What’s a BJJ fighter to do? Should they lift weights? What about kettlebells or running? Or bodyweight training?

The answer is maybe all of it.
The answer is maybe none of it.

For years, Dr. Choi has been asked again and again to share his secrets for getting the Top BJJ Fighters into peak physical condition, and also help them burn as much fat as humanly possible.
In other words, get in shape and get ripped.
And for the last 9 years I’ve refused. My team and I made a decision that we only wanted to work with the best BJJ Fighters and keep our strategies a secret. In fact, many of our trainers sign a non-disclosure agreement to ensure our secrets stay with the family.

Buchecha’s Secret Weapon. . .Won’t Be a Secret For Long

For years, Dr. Choi has been asked again and again to share his secrets for getting the top BJJ Fighters into peak physical condition, and also help them burn as much fat as humanly possible. In other words, get in shape and get ripped.

And for the last nine years he’s refused. His team only wanted to work with the best BJJ Fighters and keep his strategies a secret. In fact, many of his trainers sign a non-disclosure agreement to ensure the secrets stay with the family.

Over the last year Dr. Choi and his team sat down and laid out what they felt was the most important thing a BJJ Fighter should know. They broke down Marcus’ Wave Training Cycle into a full 9 week program, that is easy to use!

Now ANYBODY can Get Strong, Get Ripped and be in Great Shape.
Even if you don’t compete and just want to be better in class and smash your teammates, THIS is the program for you.
